About the Artist
Effrosyni Pitsalidou has been exploring the infinite potential of pencils since childhood. Her earliest attempts, mostly portraits, emphasized the inner truth reflected in the uniqueness of each person’s eyes. Always keen on creating thought-provoking artwork, in 2014 she threw herself into the making of the “Twelve Olympian iDEntITIES” collection, a modern retake on myths aimed to remind us of the value and the consequences of our choices. She has participated in many exhibitions. In 2015 her painting, “The last Why”, won the first prize in the “Stop Syria War Art Contest”. She is currently working on mermaids and a new collection of paintings, the "Nereids".
About the Collection
The “Twelve Olympian iDEntITIES” (2014 - 2017) is a collection of twelve pencil & pen-drawn, A3-sized artworks, each of which visually narrates ancient Greek legends revolving around a certain god or goddess. The selected myths are reshaped in an attempt to reveal their true essence and timeless beauty. Deities, perceived as religious mixtures of appalling vices, controversies or underestimated virtues, are exorcised to the background, to highlight the real protagonists, Mortals, in divine moments. Through philosophical riddles meant to converse with the viewers, these pieces of art wish to focus on the consciousness of our acts and inspire our inner smile.
